TSA
Luggage Locks
TSA luggage locks are locking mechanisms that you put on your suitcase
when traveling abroad through an airport or seaport. The term TSA
stands for "Transportation Security
Administration", and it's this body that have a master key that is able
to open these specially designed locks.
With TSA
luggage locks all that has to
be done to open the lock is to use the master key.
When opening a TSA luggage lock with the master key, the lock toggles a
small visible red dot. This signifies that the lock has been opened and
the luggage have been inspected by a member of the Transport Security
Administration.
The benefit of using TSA approved locks means that should an airport
official need to inspect your suitcase they won't have to cut your lock
off, but can use their official key instead.
Locks
For Luggage
Having TSA
approved luggage locks on
your suitcases will mean that you can submit a claim more easily should
you find something missing from your luggage after it has been opened.
With enough things that can potentially wrong on your holidays this
should come as a relief.
Usually TSA luggage locks use a combination mechanism. If a person
opened a TSA approved luggage lock using a master key, they wouldn't be
able to change the locks status (the red dot) unless the combination
code is known.
