Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms
Every home should have at least one smoke detector,
as well as a carbon monoxide detector. The price is negligible
compared to saving the lives of you and your loved ones. If you
already have a smoke alarm but can't remember when it was installed
it's probably time for a new one.
Basic Smoke Alarm Tips
- A smoke alarm is an early warning device, it doesn't prevent
fires, it's purpose is to give you and your family crucial time
to escape.
- For adequate fire protection you may need to install more
than one detector.
- Test each unit weekly and replace the battery yearly.
- Install in the centre of the ceiling for best performance.
- Consult your local fire department if you have any questions
about the best way to protect your property with a smoke alarm.
- Work out escape routes in advance, don't wait for a fire to
break out first.
