Security
Lights UK
It's commonly accepted that security lighting can be a deterrent
against burglary and reduce the fear of crime. Using a plug in security
light timer can put off the opportunist thief from burgling your home.
A criminal will often assess your home from across the street, and if
your home is lit and looks occupied they will generally move on,
looking for a softer target.
Types of Home Security
Lighting
- Movement Sensor
- A common model is the PIR (passive infra-red) operated security
light. Very energy efficient and reliable
- Manually
Operated - Leaving lights on for preset times, relies on you turning
light on and off. Not very energy efficient as you may leave lights on
longer than intended.
- Dusk Til Dawn
Lighting - Using photo-electric cells the light will come on at dusk
and stay on until dawn, giving you that home 'occupied look' all night
long; automatically.
- Timer Operated -
Programmable to come on at times that you request. Very effective as
any would be thief will be off-footed by the inconsistent
lighting pattern that your home gives out.
You should aim to use a combination of security lighting. It would be a
good idea to have one or two timer operated lamps inside your home
along with a dusk til dawn exterior light and a PIR floodlight. The
additional switching on manually of interior lights will also help vary
the routine when you're out of an evening.
