PIR
Security
Lights
Designed to be activated by a persons body heat a PIR (Passive Infrared
Radiation) security light can be an important part of your security
illumination. Used in conjunction with other forms of lighting such as
dusk-to-dawn and manual lighting you should be able to create a well
lit perimeter to your property.
While
PIR
security lights are very
energy efficient, only coming on
when they're triggered, there are some downsides to only
using
PIR
outside lights to illuminate
your house.
- Can be falsely
triggered by a cat or other animal, this can lead to a sense of fear
in vulnerable people
- Can emit a stark
and 'powerful' bright white light which can be annoying for your
neighbours
- Only comes on
when a burglar has crossed a boundary, which may be too late. Better to
use in conjunction with a dusk-til-dark
light, which will put off a burglar from a greater distance
