A mortice lock gets its name from the fact that the lock itself is actually morticed (as in embedded) into the door. This gives it an inherently stronger fixing than other types of locks.

The installation of mortice door locks is highly recommended on both the front and rear off your home, especially the back door as it is often an area that is shielded and allows burglars time to tamper with less sturdy locks.
